Silicone vs. Fiberglass High Temperature Duct: What Is the Difference?

Understand how coating, base fabric and construction affect flexibility, temperature resistance and service life.

Silicone vs. Fiberglass High Temperature Duct: What Is the Difference?

Fiberglass is usually the reinforcement

Many industrial high-temperature ducts are not a simple choice between silicone and fiberglass. Fiberglass fabric provides strength and temperature stability, while silicone forms the flexible protective coating and sealing layer.

Why coating quality matters

Coating weight, curing consistency and adhesion affect leakage, flexibility and resistance to moisture or contamination. A heavier wall is not automatically better if the duct must flex continuously.

Match construction to the application

For clean hot air and repeated movement, silicone-coated fiberglass is a common solution. For higher temperatures, a clip-type fabric duct, insulated construction or metal duct may be required.
