OEM Flexible Ducting: Drawing, Sample and Repeat-Order Checklist

A practical checklist for equipment manufacturers ordering OEM flexible ducting from drawings, samples or approved specifications.

OEM Flexible Ducting: Drawing, Sample and Repeat-Order Checklist

Start with the approved functional requirement

An OEM flexible duct should be defined by its function in the equipment: air supply, hot-air circulation, exhaust, vibration isolation, temporary ventilation or material transfer. Record the medium, temperature, pressure direction, diameter, installed length, movement and both end interfaces. An old sample can be useful, but it should be measured and checked against the current equipment requirement rather than copied without review.

Make the drawing usable for production

A useful drawing shows the inside diameter, length, cuff or flange dimensions, hardware interface, material callout, reinforcement, insulation, colour, marking and tolerances that are genuinely important. Add photographs of the installed part when possible. If the hose has folds, a non-round connection, soft cuff or special bend requirement, identify these separately so the drawing does not leave the critical construction open to interpretation.

Decide what a sample must prove

A sample should answer a specific question: fit at the equipment outlet, flexibility, cuff clamp fit, routing clearance, surface condition or expected handling. It should not be treated as proof that every future operating condition has been independently certified. Agree the sample dimensions, inspection points and any test requirement before it is made, then document any approved change before a repeat order is released.

Control repeat production

For repeat OEM supply, maintain an agreed reference for product construction, dimensions, end treatment, label, packaging and inspection points. When a material, diameter, length, reinforcement or end connection changes, review the application impact rather than assuming it is an equivalent substitution. This is especially important for high-temperature, insulated, negative-pressure and abrasion-resistant flexible ducting.

RFQ information for an OEM programme

Send the drawing or sample, equipment application, expected annual or batch quantity, destination market, target delivery schedule and any required quality documentation. This allows an OEM flexible ducting manufacturer to distinguish a one-off development item from a stable repeat product and to prepare a practical sampling and quotation route.
